Confusion of Feedburner

As I've been getting back into my blog and working to develop strong posts that spark some interest, I've noticed something that had me baffled but not has me delighted about a service I used called FeedBurner.

FeedBurner is an RSS service provided that is really the whole package of everything that a blogger could ask for. I can see how many subscribers I have. How many readers each day. What the most popular blogs. What RSS services everyone uses and what the top clicks in and out of the blog are.

This service is just AWESOME!

My concern at the start extended from the fact that I found that quite a few of the subscribers are actually search bots for most of the major RSS blog sites such Feedster, Google, Yahoo, Bloggster, Blo.gs, Technorati and FeedBurner itself. I thought this was something of concern because I didn't have actual people reading my blog, but rather a bunch of bots that scan the Web for updates in blogs and then posts them in their central webpage.

Then I realized that this was great because now my blog is getting posted on ten other sites with no work at all. All I have to do is work on strong titles for my posts, have a solid content within the body and make sure my keywords stand out well.

Because I've done that, I've watched my hits climb to 20 hits a day and my subscribers grow even further! It's great! I love it!

Thank you FeedBurner! You are a great service and I can't thank you enough for the amazing product you have published!

Social Networking for Everyone!

Social networking seems to be the topic of discussion for almost all of the Web over the past few weeks. Facebook did this, MySpace did that, AIM added this, Yahoo pleased more customers, Google tried to break into all of their balloons of success...blah blah blah!

For those who don't know what social networking on the Web entails, I suggest you read this article by Mark Hendrickson at TechCrunch and possibly read into some of the links he has posted there as well.

For the basic understanding, social networking is basically meeting up with people you know online as well as meeting with people who have similar interests in life. They way to meet these people is the area of interest for users. There are platforms all over the Web that allow users to find other users through common links. Think of the rule "Six degrees of seperation" but on steroids.

The problem for most users is trying to find the right one that lets them do what they want, when they want and how they want. Each site has restrictions and safe guards for the both the company and the users.

My reason for this post is basically because it seems as though people are forgetting about the original way to link up to people on the Web: through word of mouth and actually links from blogs and sites!

I love my readers. They inspire me to keep writing and looking for new and wonderful things in the world of tech. They keep me on my toes and really make me smile.

I guess this is a call out to everyone that reads my blog: Let me know that you read my blog. Add me to your e-mail or RSS feeds, link up to a post that you like, leave me comments (good or bad, I enjoy feedback)!

Fellow bloggers, let me know if there is something you want me to read on your blog or check out in relation to something I've writtin. I would love to meet some new bloggers and get some fresh ideas!

Entourage and a Blogger's Union???

After a quick trip to the closest Best Buy, I found out that Best Buy is now selling Apple computers! I have very little experience with Apple and Mac but the more I play with these computers, the more I really enjoy them!

With this in mind, I found a program that seems to answer all of the problems that Windows users have been griping about for years! Microsoft Entourage is the Mac version of Outlook that goes above and beyond everything that Outlook has ever been. This particular program has been around since 2004, I believe, and it seems to have made all of my wildest dreams come true with an easy to use interface and complete integration of e-mail, notes, calendar, task center, project and an address book!

This program would be more than good enough reason for me to purchase a Mac (if I happened to have the cash).  This program seems to incorporate all of Google's free, online services of Gmail and documents service. For some reason, I've found something of interest in this program. Let me know if anyone has some experience with this program.

The other note in this entry comes from several of my RSS feeds in Flock. It seems as though many of the journalists including Ashley M. Heher at USA Today, have been reporting on the fact that many professional bloggers are trying to rally to form a union.

I found this to be incredibly interesting because the idea of professional blogging has been developing over the past year or so and now those who have chosen to write online for a living would like to have a standard, a health care program and many more benefits. Interesting to say the least considering the world of journalism may or may not be moving away from incorporated and fully funded sources such as the major news sites and more so towards a wide open opinion based writing base of bloggers.

As a blogger, I think this is great considering the fact that I'm watching my opinion develop a stronger hold on individuals and corporations alike. Globalization transition is making news without actually having the news say it!

Second Life, jMemorize and Sage

I was "stumblin" today and found a few great internet applications to use.

#1. Second Life is the newest and hottest craze on the web! This is a great way to waste some time exploring and meeting new people and I have yet to try it. It's been getting a lot of notice throughout the blogosphere as well as online and televised media. A good way to think about it is that it's an online, free version of The Sims but it's completely customizable and ready for everyone to use. This might be a project for myself for this summer after exams, papers and Europe have passed by. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts. I've been having a hard time finding any really strong opinions on if this is something worth trying or not.

#2. As due dates inch closer and closer for every student from elementary to college, exams and memorization seem to be a huge focus. I've found a great little tool for memorizing while you or your kids are on the computer wasting their time. jMemorize is a great Java tool that lets you import your information, turns the definitions into flash cards and helps to analyze what a person needs to focus us on using a highly studied format. I'm trying it out as I type for my upcoming Latin and Greek exam and it's amazing how well it works. It brings me back to cards that I got wrong (or keep getting wrong). It's just great and I can do it while I'm wasting my time on the web.

#3. I found something for everyone that uses Firefox. In order to subscribe to my blog more easily and not have an excuse for having a full browser bar of RSS feeds, use Sage. Sage is a great add-on that is small and simple to use. Just download and it will install in Firefox and then restart the browser. When you have done this, you will find a new button next to your home tab that you just click, a little sidebar will open, click the white button and it will search the current website for any and all RSS feeds available! It's great and a simple way to start queuing up all your favorite blogs and websites (like mine!)!
