I've been digging around researching some new online services that are trying to change the way we work online. I've been checking Mashable religiously and it is slowly becoming my favorite site in regards to this blog. If you have checked it out, do so now!
In the mix of it all, I've actually found something that has me excited and disappointed at the same time. The service known as Fuser is service that really tries to do it all but is completely inhibited by the ambition that is embodied in the service.
The basic overiew:
Fuser is an online service that allows you to have constant access and control to all of your favorite e-mail services (Yahoo, Google, Hotmail, Microsoft Exchange, etc.) as well as the largest social networking sites Facebook and MySpace. Fuser basically pings all of these sites, color categorizes each account and arranges them into an all-in-one inbox. You can respond to e-mails while responding to a Facebook message, who wouldn't want that?!?! Great, right? In theory, yes! In reality, not quite!
The faults:
Fuser is still in beta and services are constantly being suggested and added or removed in response to what the current users feel to be necessary. The problem lies in the fact that the service is ungodly slow and the ping rate doesn't really ring true to events as they occur.
A great example of this is that I used this service almost exclusively for two days. I didn't check my Gmail, Web Exchange, Yahoo or Facebook account directly. I was a little perturb by how slow it was but I loved the fact that was checking my e-mail and Facebook and responded to all of my messages and I was given access to delete and remove the message from my common inbox. However, I came to find that after logging into each of my accounts individually the next day, I found that none of my messages had been deleted! A bit concerning and a lesson learned by me to not trust a beta program wholeheartedly.
Suggestions:
Fuser: Get some more server space and speed up the process and pinging. Work on the bugs and pay close attention to the user forum. The mobility option would be a high recommendation, especially with the new market of iPod Touch.
Readers: Give Fuser a try if you feel like utilizing a strong tool that still has a lot of kinks in the system. When everything is done at Fuser to enable a better experience, this service will be well worth your time!
As always, I could be wrong about this service, so PROVE IT!

Lack of American Ingenuity
I've been going through my normal headline glances, Digg.com articles, TechCrunch overviews, LifeHacker entries and the rest of the common RSS feeds that I read every morning.
The general stories are the same. "Some company did this and it violates a rule/law" or "New product is best, BUT really is the same as the other product and was just created by a different company" or the kicker "(Fill-in Google/Apple/ Microsoft/Facebook/Yahoo) buys company!"
What happened to really important breaking news in the technology world? What happened to companies putting out a completely new product that will better the lives of the people who use it? What happened to a great organization trying to help the world? What happened to American ingenuity?
The American technology companies are doing a good job of releasing products that keep the user on their toes but sometimes it is for the wrong reason. Microsoft with constant updates and a lackluster products. Google/Yahoo/Facebook creating new unique Web 2.0 apps just so they can be copied by the competitors. What happened to the idea of BEING BETTER THAN THE REST?!?!?!
Apple users are waiting in hopes of the new Mac operating system Leopard. Microsoft users wait for SP1 for Vista and still become infuriated by the fact that there are no drivers that work with it! Google creates new but doesn't promote. Yahoo tries to catch up and revolutionize in several areas but falls. Facebook keeps adding new material but really doesn't allow for customizing without clutter.
This is a post of frustration. I will admit that I am excited for the iPod Touch and Leopard and the next Google product and whatever else the Web 2.0 world has to offer. But I am concerned that there is a lack in American ingenuity for new products! What happened to that?
I think it's leaving because as Americans, we aren't adapting. We aren't trying to better ourselves in our jobs. We aren't trying to figure out the next best thing but instead we are dwelling on the products that were good for years. Guess what? They are getting old and out of date!
,
Take the time to learn something new today. I had a teacher that used the phrase "Expand your horizons" like it was going out of style. Try it!
I could be wrong about all of this, PROVE IT!
Have a great day!

Social Networking for Everyone!
Social networking seems to be the topic of discussion for almost all of the Web over the past few weeks. Facebook did this, MySpace did that, AIM added this, Yahoo pleased more customers, Google tried to break into all of their balloons of success...blah blah blah!
For those who don't know what social networking on the Web entails, I suggest you read this article by Mark Hendrickson at TechCrunch and possibly read into some of the links he has posted there as well.
For the basic understanding, social networking is basically meeting up with people you know online as well as meeting with people who have similar interests in life. They way to meet these people is the area of interest for users. There are platforms all over the Web that allow users to find other users through common links. Think of the rule "Six degrees of seperation" but on steroids.
The problem for most users is trying to find the right one that lets them do what they want, when they want and how they want. Each site has restrictions and safe guards for the both the company and the users.
Check out my recent post about the variety of networks that you can connect to.
My reason for this post is basically because it seems as though people are forgetting about the original way to link up to people on the Web: through word of mouth and actually links from blogs and sites!
I love my readers. They inspire me to keep writing and looking for new and wonderful things in the world of tech. They keep me on my toes and really make me smile.
I guess this is a call out to everyone that reads my blog: Let me know that you read my blog. Add me to your e-mail or RSS feeds, link up to a post that you like, leave me comments (good or bad, I enjoy feedback)!
Fellow bloggers, let me know if there is something you want me to read on your blog or check out in relation to something I've writtin. I would love to meet some new bloggers and get some fresh ideas!
Let's social network the old way a little bit. I'm trying to my best by having a link to some blogger every day! If you blog, why not give it a try for every blogger out there?
My blog has no restriction on who can leave comments or add me to e-mail or RSS and I don't require membership. Let me know what you think and if you like what I have to say, add me! Spread the word and I will be glad to do the same!
Thanks and have a great day!

Facebook Galore!
In the midst of several lawsuits being filed against Facebook, it seems as though the company is still attracting a huge amount of positive side effects that meant to help in the equalization of Facebook and Google. There is also a bit of controversy in the process.
According to Wired. com writer Scott Gilbertson, it seems as though Facebook is beginning to get some "slack" from non-users for the sole fact that a non-user is not allowed to view a complete page of a user. In my opinion, this particular feature was probably put into affect due to the number of harassment and murders cases from the open area of MySpace. There is a reason for this idea and concept. Users are given the option to open up their profiles to friends only, people within their network and/or all users of Facebook.
As a user of Facebook and future college grad who realizes that businesses are beginning to view social networks in regards to hiring an individual, this feature is very convenient and useful for me. Read the article for yourself and let me what you think. Personally, I think the article is a bit far fetched in regards to the Internet trends and the safety of users personal information.
The other Facebook news revolves around the fact that Buy.com is now opening up an application called Garage Sale that allows users to auction off their stuff and have direct sales, much like the Marketplace utility and eBay's pot of gold.
By using a network that has already been set up and is willing to be marketed to, Buy.com is beginning to maximum the profits without the work. Brilliant!

Google Doubts
I was just going through all of the services offered by Google and I am just astounded!
Google has HUGE database of products (as seen in the link) that will offer to solve all of the issues you may or may not have with your personal or business computing and Internet usage.
This is has both ups and downs.
The upside: 1.Lots of FREE programs and services for the user of all levels. 2. They are encroaching in on Microsoft's territory with a few programs and that is enough to make any experienced user happy. 3. They seem to be a wonderful company to work for.
The downside: 1. They are creating a monopoly of their products that is starting to consume start-up Web 2.0 companies. 2. They seem to be growing at an exponential rate that can't be stopped by one organization. 3. Their products are trying to impede on every single piece of software, hardware and Web-based program that anyone has on their computer!
I love Google and they products they create but they are starting to consumer too many things that had a certain charm.
One thing that I'm not sure whether to cheer for or shake in my boots about is the fact that the only real competitor that many bloggers and journalists, alike, agree upon is Facebook.
This company, started by Mark Zuckerberg, took over college campuses a year ago and is now taking over MySpace and most of the other major social networks out there! Since the addition of the Application programs on Facebook that allow users to do everything from link to their favorite photo sharing sites (i.e. Flickr) to playing 1000's of the classic Nintendo games to sharing the places they have traveled, people are really migrating to this do it all site.
Again, another scary thing for users out there considering that so many of the individual Web 2.0 companies are now becoming affiliated with the major companies of the original Web movement and this may be something that is absolutely wonderful or something to raise a concern about.
Please let me know your thoughts on this one as I may be blowing this speculation out of proportion!
Thanks and have a great day!
